    Abstract:

Arsenic content in sulfide copper concentrates from Andes region has been continuously increased during the last decades. This situation places copper smelters in a challenge to control minor elements in order to avoid any pollutant emission. We analyze options for this control by some classical pyrometallurgical operations and some other new proposals of processes coming from R&D programs undertaken by the Chemical Metallurgy Processes Group at the University of Concepción during the last 20 year.We present in this paper the analysis of three new proposals starting from their fundamental physical chemistry conceptualization up to the pilot plant tests.
